»Unidentified« untersucht Emotionen, unbekannte Lebensformen, menschliches Handeln und Empathie. Toxische Substanzen und Naturmaterialien verflechten sich in fragilen Anordnungen, die an Konservierungsversuche oder deren Folgen erinnern. Die Arbeiten erforschen, was unter Oberflächen, in Körpern und Umgebungen sowie durch Strukturen von Fürsorge und Konsum zirkuliert.
Die Ausstellung wird durch die Finnische Kulturstiftung (Suomen Kulttuurirahasto) unterstützt, die Arbeit der Künstlerin wurde durch das Zentrum für Kunstförderung Finnland (Taike) gefördert.
Anna Pekkala (geb. 1989, Mänttä) ist eine in Helsinki ansässige bildende Künstlerin, die im Bereich Skulptur und Installation arbeitet. Ihre Praxis, die eine breite Palette von Materialien und wechselnde Maßstäbe umfasst, ist tief vom Sammeln geprägt. Die Arbeiten setzen sich mit unnatürlicher Natur, pseudowissenschaftlichen Dioramen, Zerstörung und Popkultur auseinander.
Pekkala schloss 2024 ihren Master (MFA) in Bildhauerei an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Helsinki ab und absolvierte zuvor 2015 ihr Studium zur bildenden Künstlerin an der Fachhochschule Tampere. Ihre Werke wurden bereits vielfach in Finnland und darüber hinaus ausgestellt, darunter auf der Polygala Biennale im Naturkundemuseum Helsinki (2024), in der Galleri Apoteket auf Gotland (2025) und auf der Koivukuja Biennale in Iisalmi (2025).

»Unidentified« examines emotions, unknown forms of life, human action, and empathy. Toxic substances and natural materials intertwine in fragile arrangements suggesting preservation attempts or their aftermath. The works explore what circulates beneath surfaces, within bodies and environments, and through structures of care and consumption.
The exhibition is supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation and the artist’s work has been supported by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
Anna Pekkala (b. 1989, Mänttä) is a Helsinki-based visual artist working with sculpture and installation. Working with a broad range of materials and shifting scales, the practice is deeply informed by collecting. The work engages with unnatural nature, pseudo-scientific dioramas, destruction, and popular culture.
Pekkala completed an MFA in Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki, in 2024, and previously graduated as a visual artist from Tampere University of Applied Sciences in 2015. The works have been exhibited widely around Finland and beyond, including the Polygala Biennale, Natural History Museum, Helsinki (2024); Galleri Apoteket, Gotland (2025); and Koivukuja Biennial, Iisalmi (2025).
